Guidance for Mutual Recognition

  • Mutual Recognition (MR) certification is not a mandatory requirement and it relates to class requirements for Type Approval that exist in one or more EU RO's Rules, but not necessarily all EU RO Rules. Please refer to the controlled versions of the agreed MR Technical Requirements for Type Approved products;

  • MR is available to all manufacturers irrespective of where they are located and can be provided by any of the EU ROs on an equally valid basis;

  • Under the Mutual Recognition (MR) Type Approval Scheme, all EU ROs are obliged to accept a MR certificate as equivalent to one of their own.  See Links to MR Certificates;

  • If an application for EU RO MR type approval is made to one EU RO, there is no need to apply with the same request for MR type approval certification to any of the other EU ROs;

  • For guidance on the Mutual Recognition scheme, please refer to the Framework Document for the Mutual Recognition of Type Approval below.
